Thursday Football

USC @ Oregon St.

I need to be honest, I am rooting for USC in this game and that may cloud my judgement. I am a Pac 10 homer, so usually I root for the 2 best Pac 10 teams to do well so that in the bowl games they can pound the other conferences. Because it is clear that USC is the only real good team that the Pac 10 has this year, you can guess who I am hoping dominates this game. Now OSU has been hurt by their lack of experience on defense. We expected them to get beat by Penn St, but the loss to Stanford was unacceptable. OSU however has played USC pretty well, beating them 2 years ago at home. Let me remind you though that that game was played in extreme fog, thus evening the playing field. Over the past number of years OSU has done an excellent job stopping the run, but they didn't do that against Stanford. I would be surprised if they will get any consistent pressure on the Sanchez with the O-line that USC has. I think that the QB of OSU determines whether OSU has a shot of covering here. QB play has killed them the past couple of years, so if the QB limits the turnovers, and everything breaks right, they can keep it reasonably close. USC does a great job with scheduling, getting a bye week both before and after Ohio St. This negates the both the look ahead factor and the let down factor. USC should be chomping at the bit to go lay waste to this Beavers team on national tv, which they may need to do because pollsters know that the Pac 10 is down this year. Like I said at the start, I am laying the point with USC, but mostly because I am rooting for them to win. Good Luck with this game.

SMU @ Tulane

Man I know so little about these teams. I know that SMU is all offense and no defense, although they have scored only 7 points the last 2 weeks. Granted, those games were against Texas Tech and TCU. 18 points seems like a lot to lay against a team that has a decent offense, which is why I would lean towards SMU +18.

Florida has zero turnovers in three games, and only a few sustained drives. They have been playing great defense and special teams to give Tebow a short field. Between that and a highlight reel of spectacular big plays, the Gators have very little experience with nice measured offensive proformance. At some point turnovers don't bounce your way, your return man jukes one too many times and gets flattened, and all of a sudden you actually have to play football. I wouldn't pick Florida to lose, but watch for Ole Miss to give the Gator's their first real test in a close game.

the only game that seems like a lock to me would be the Wisc game at -6. That's it for me really, i'm a Florida fan and even I feel like that's a lot of points for them to cover. But being it is the swamp and the gators are the gators if the line moves down to 21 or 20 I might take them...that is a might now! But I agree with Josh that it could be close.

Also watch out for UNC this week, I know Miami is good...but UNC for some reason always plays them tough.
